Holy Matrimony
"The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring; this covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament." CCC 1601
.Steps for Marriage Preparation at St Francis of Assisi
1. Contact the Wedding Coordinator no less than 6 months before the preferred date of the wedding: [email protected]
2. Obtain a Baptismal Certificate for the Bride and Groom. The certificate has to be issued by the parish of baptism within the last 6 months. Request a certificate from your church of baptism. Some parishes have an online order form, and others take the request over the phone. Parishes can mail directly to St Francis.
3. Obtain two witness forms for the bride and two witness forms for the groom. A witness is a relative (parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle) or close family friend who has known you most of your life. The witnesses need to make an appointment to complete the form in the presence of Fr Victor or Deacon Phil. It is highly preferable that the witness lives within the diocese where you are preparing but if the witness lives outside the diocese, notify our wedding coordinator so the forms can forwarded.
4. Schedule to meet with a priest. After your newly issued baptism certificates have arrived and we have received all four witnesses, call the parish office to schedule an appointment to meet with a priest.
5. Contact the parish office to schedule the date of the wedding, only after the couple has met with the priest, and he has approved to go forward.
PLEASE do not set the date of the wedding before completing steps 1-5.
6. Attend three pre-marriage counseling sessions with our pastor.
7. Attend an in-person marriage preparation workshop. We offer these three times a year. For dates and to register, scroll to the bottom of this page.
8. Contact the parish Music Coordinator, Stephanie Sundine, at [email protected], at least six weeks before your wedding, to review the music for your wedding. This is important even if you are providing your own musicians.
9. Meet with the priest or deacon who will celebrate your marriage at least 2-3 weeks before the Wedding. Call the parish office to schedule an appointment. Bring your "Wedding Ceremony and Planning Sheet" and a "Deschutes County Marriage License" to this meeting.
