Being disciples and making disciples
Annual Stewardship Campaign 2024
Dear Parishioners,
Discipleship and stewardship are two areas of Catholic life that seem separate, but they are very closely connected. In his summary of the 1992 U.S. bishops’ pastoral letter “Stewardship: A Disciple’s Response”, Bishop John J. McGraw put it very succinctly. “Once one chooses to become a disciple of Jesus Christ, stewardship is not an option.” Being disciples of Christ carries with it responsibility, for disciple does not merely describe who we are, it describes what we do. Discipleship, therefore, engenders a response. One critical response is to spread the Good News of Christ: making disciples. And the bridge between being disciples and making disciples is stewardship. This year we have chosen “Being Disciples and Making Disciples” as the theme of our 2023-24 Annual Stewardship Campaign. The goals of our Annual Stewardship Campaign are to raise the funds necessary for the operating expenses of the parish and to continue to build the Scholarship Fund for our school. It is your opportunity to commit or renew your commitment to supporting St. Francis Parish. Please prayerfully consider how you can best respond to this year’s campaign. I ask that you complete and return the enclosed commitment card by Commitment Sunday, October 22. You may return the card by mail, drop it by the parish office, or drop it in the collection basket at Mass. It is important that you return the card even if you already tithe regularly or you cannot make a financial commitment at this time. If you cannot commit financially, I ask for your prayerful support for the success of the campaign. If you already tithe, I ask that you renew or increase that commitment if you are able. Thank you for your continued generous support of our parish as we continue our important work of being disciples and making disciples. In Christ, Fr. Jose Thomas Mudakodiyil, Pastor |
