Lent and Easter 2025
Lord, I am not worthy...
Lent begins on Ash Wednesday
All Lenten Services are at the 27th Street church, with Daily Mass and Adoration in the St. Clare Chapel M-F.
Guidelines for Lent
Lent prepares the faithful to celebrate the Paschal Mystery of Christ’s suffering, death, and resurrection. It is a time for reflection and spiritual renewal – a time to examine one’s relationship with God and with others. Lent is also the final preparation period for catechumens seeking to be baptized at the Easter Vigil.
As Catholics, the Church calls us to a spirit of repentance and conversion– “to turn away from sin, and to be faithful to the Gospel.” Through our traditional practices of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, we express our conversion and prepare to renew our Baptismal promises at Easter.
Below are the Church’s definitions of “fasting and abstinence”, as well as the obligatory minimum requirements that she asks of us.
Abstinence: Meat and poultry are removed from our meals – fish is acceptable.
Fasting: Eat one (1) full meal and two (2) smaller meals – no snacking during the day.
All Catholics between the ages of 18 and 59 should fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.
All Catholics 14 years and older are to abstain from meat and poultry on Ash Wednesday, all the Fridays of Lent, and Good Friday

Lenten Theme
Lord, I am not worthy...
...but only say the word and my soul shall be healed...
...but only say the word and my soul shall be healed...
If salvation was reserved only for those who are worthy, no one would be saved. None of us are truly worthy because we are all sinners. And yet, Christ calls us out of our unworthiness into the light of His mercy and love.
The season of Lent provides the opportunity for each of us to reflect on our unworthiness and to respond to Christ's mercy. Christ does not demand worthiness of us, but He calls us to conversion. He calls us to examine our lives, to turn away from sin, and to accept His grace. He calls us to reflect that grace into the world so that all may come to know Him.
As we embark upon our Lenten journey with prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, you are invited to participate in the many opportunities for reflection, renewal, and fellowship which we are offering this year. Joining these parish Lenten observances to each of our personal Lenten observances, we can grow toward worthiness and be ready to celebrate the joy of Easter with praise and thanksgiving.
