Liturgical Ministers
The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is the most important thing we do as Church, for the Eucharist is the Source and Summit of the Christian life. The priest, acting in persona Christi (in the person of Christ), consecrates simple bread and wine and, through the miracle of transubstantiation, they become the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ Jesus. Liturgical Ministers assist him in this Holy Work, as acolytes and altar servers serve at the Table of the Lord, lectors or readers proclaim the Word of God, extraordinary ministers help to distribute the Sacred Body and Blood of Christ to the faithful, and music ministers lead the assembly and enliven our celebrations by raising a joyful voice to the Lord. Those who are called to serve at our liturgies as Liturgical Ministers are undertaking a sacred duty and must be well prepared to perform their duties reverently and well, adhering to the instructions provided by Holy Mother Church and the Diocese of Baker.
On this page, Liturgical Ministers will find resources to aid them in their sacred duty, including a helpful video prepared by Bishop Cary with instructions on the norms for celebrating Mass in the Diocese of Baker and training videos from Bishop Cary for acolytes, extraordinary ministers, lectors, and music ministers. We have also posted a Summary of the GIRM (General Instruction of the Roman Missal) and Diocesan guidelines for each of the Liturgical Ministries, as well as an overview of the Liturgical Practices for our parish (which reflects the GIRM and diocesan norms). And finally, we have posted video recordings of the Liturgical Minister Meetings in our parish that were held on July 29, 30, and 31, 2025.
Ministers are expected to watch the Full Mass Instruction Video as well as the training video specific to their ministry and download and review the GIRM summary, the diocesan guidelines for their ministry, and the liturgical practices for our parish. Those who did not attend the meetings in July should also watch the meeting recordings. Questions or concerns should be directed to Deacon Phil.
Thank you for your service to our parish as a Liturgical Minister!
