Lent

Come to me, I am the Bread of Life
Our Lenten theme this year, Come to me, I am the Bread of Life, reflects the reality of the True Presence of Christ in the Holy Eucharist and our Lord's desire that we approach Him joyfully and without hesitation. It is both an invitation and a declaration of faith. The Lord invites us, "Come to me", and he declares to us, "I am the bread of Life".

What will be your response to the Lord's invitation to "Come to me" this Lent?
  • Will you devote more time each day for prayer?
  • Will you commit to an hour each week for Adoration?
  • Will you return to Mass if you haven't done so already?
  • Will you invite a friend or family member to church?
  • Is the Lord calling you in some other way?

Guidelines for Lent 2023
Lent prepares the faithful to celebrate the Paschal Mystery of Christ's suffering, death, and resurrection. It is a time for reflection and spiritual renewal. As Catholics, the Church calls us to a spirit of repentance and conversation: "to turn away from sin, and to be faithful to the Gospel".

Below are the Church's definitions of "fasting and abstinence" as well as the obligatory minimum requirements that she asks of us.

Abstinence:   Meat and poultry are removed from our meals - fish is acceptable.

Fasting:    Eat one (1) full meal and two (2) smaller meals - no snacking during the day.
  • All Catholics between the age of 18 and 59 are to fast on Good Friday.
  • All Catholics 14 years and older are to abstain from meat and poultry on all Fridays of Lent and Good Friday.
