Lenten Fast and Abstinence Guide
Lent prepares the faithful to celebrate the Paschal Mystery of Christ's suffering, death, and resurrection. It is a time for reflection and spiritual renewal, a time to examine one's relationship with God and with others. Lent is also the final preparation period for catechumens seeking to be baptized at the Easter Vigil.
All Catholics 14 years and older are to abstain from meat and poultry on Ash Wednesday, all the Fridays of Lent, and Good Friday.
All Catholics between 18 and 59 are to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Fasting is one (1) full meal and two (2) smaller meals, with no snacking in between meals.
