St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church
LIFE TEEN High School Youth Ministry
What is Life Teen?
In simple Terms, LIFE TEEN is what we call our High School Youth Ministry
program at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. It is a Catholic centered
program open to teens (grades 9-12) of all faiths. LIFE is the place to be. LIFE
TEEN ministers to young people spiritually, educationally, emotionally, and
socially. It is a total, comprehensive approach to Catholic youth ministry.
Through the LIFE TEEN Mass and LIFE Nights, high school teens learn more about
their Catholic faith and grow to love the Sacraments, the Word, and the Mass. At
a parish that uses the LIFE TEEN model, a priest, youth minister, music ministry
and a Core team of volunteers build an environment where teens feel loved,
accepted, and compelled to reach deeper into their faith.
What is a Life Night?
Basically this is the faith formation class for high school students. Following
the Sunday 5pm Mass, Youth ministers and Core members lead the teens deeper into
their Catholic faith in the LIFE Night experience. Teens grow as a faith
community, increasing in understanding of what it means to be young and Catholic
in today’s world. The LIFE Nights provide the catechetical teaching needed for
Catholic teens to truly grow in faith and knowledge.
High School Youth Ministry Life Nights for 2007-2008:
10/14 & 28 11/4 &18
12/2 & 15 1/13 &27
2/10 & 24 3/2 & 16
4/6, 13 & 20 5/4
We already attend the _:00 Mass as a family. Does my teen have to attend the
Sunday 5 p.m. LIFE TEEN Mass on High School Youth Ministry nights?
The short answer to this is “No, let’s praise God that they are attending Mass
weekly.” The longer answer requires more questions. Are they coming to Mass
freely or does it take some coaxing to get them there? Are they actively
participating in Mass or are they just going through the motions? Would it be
beneficial for my teen to see his/her peers actively participating in Mass?
A LIFE TEEN Mass has proven to be affective at helping High School teens grow to
love the Mass. Also, if done well, a mass geared to High School teens can help
bring teenagers into a more active participation in the parish community.
4. Can my teen bring their friends?
The LIFE TEEN High School Program is open to ALL teens of all faiths and ethnic
backgrounds every Sunday Evening. We ask that you register your teen to help us
with our records as well as help with some of the expenses of this outstanding
program.
St. Francis of Assisi High School Youth Ministry is here, primarily, to minister
to the needs of our parish High School youth, but are called by God to
constantly reach out to others and invite them to His family.
5. What else can help my teen navigate through high school?
Besides participating weekly in the Mass and High School Youth Ministry LIFE
Night, the best way to help teens grow deeper in love with God is through our
High School Retreats:
DDA (Day-by-Day Agape) retreat coming up this January 18th-21st on MLKJ
Weekend at Mckenzie Bridge (teen talks, sm. group, Mass, Confession, Adoration,
music, games, fun & fellowship). Contact Joe and June Hayes for more
information.
Barn Berakoth High School Youth Rally @ the Barn in Powell Butte on November
17th, 1-8 pm (games, sm. group, music, prayer, dinner, mass & bonfire)
Please email deb@dioceseofbaker.org for more info and registration forms
These retreats are vital!! They are also the most fun and produce the most
fruit. We strongly encourage you to have your teen(s) register and come to these
retreats. It is also important that you as a parent are involved in their faith
formation. There are many ways to be a part of this ministry. We need you! But
it is also very important to continue to encourage your child to come and be
involved. Ask them questions. Live your faith. That is the best way to help.
Please help us by registering your teen and encouraging him/her to attend St.
Francis LIFE TEEN High School Ministry Youth Group.
They are allowed and encouraged to invite their friends along with them! Thank
you for your continued support and prayer for today’s young people!
Yours in Christ and Mary,
