Historic Church Restoration – Phase II Survey
Phase One of the Historic Church Restoration included restoration and renovation of the sanctuary, stained-glass windows, sacristy, exterior brick and concrete, and basement. As this work nears completion and we begin to prepare for re-opening, we are contemplating continuing the restoration work with Phase Two. Phase Two would complete the project and would entail restoration and renovation of the nave, including pews, flooring, stations of the cross, woodwork, walls, ceiling, paint, and lighting.
We saw inflation drive the cost of Phase One up by 53% from the original estimate, and we have been given the opportunity to avoid inflation and lock in pricing by signing a contract for Phase Two now, with work to begin in 2025 and taking approximately four months to complete. The current estimate for Phase Two is approximately one million dollars. Without a signed contract, this estimate will assuredly increase significantly over the next months and years. Until Phase Two is completed, the restoration will be incomplete and will appear incomplete.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to respond to our survey. The survey answers and comments are shown below.

Work done looks good. I assume we will have prices for sponsor like pews, lights, etc.
We want to know if we consider sponsoring an item such as restoration of pew or stations of the cross, how much will it cost?
We support restoring St. Francis. Bring back the Latsin Mass please. The Anderson's
We sponsored the restoration of an item in Phase I We look forward to getting back to celebrating Mass at the Historic Church and are excited for the complete renovation of the Church!
We have a 2nd home in Bend and attend St. Francis when there. I recommend proceeding and locking a contract with a well-funded contractor as prices will continue to go up . My recommendation to proceed now promptly is that so many project are not completed if time has past so now is the time to get it done. The Historic Church is a jewel box in Bend and the projects are enhancing and restoring its beauty. Please don't wait. I can't afford to be greatly generous (with commitments to my own parish and our diocese) however I would consider supporting a specific restoration project if the cost would be affordable for me. Thank you. From the pictures my son has sent me, the first phase is lovely. Again, thank you. Neil Martin, Los Angeles
We believe emphasis should be put into community building rather than very expensive buildings. There's need for a parish on the West Side. Locking in a price is difficult at best; this is particularly true of renovations.
We also would support fundraisers Was married there 41 years ago. Look forward to worshipiing there.
Try hard not to delay reopening of the church! Have you got any competing estimates?
The church looks stunning!
Thank you to Rea and Leigh for sharing their faith today. It was awesome.
Thank you for your hard work.
Thank you for keeping the traditional altar and kneelers. I was concerned that it was going to become a modernized disaster but am pleasantly surprised. Thank you thank you thank you.
Supported Phase I
So sorry - unable to contribute financially
Sanctuary is breathtaking!
Request Traditional Mass in the beautiful Traditional Church (even occassionally).
Please have more Masses her. Sunday morning!
Phase I looks beautiful so far!
Pew restoration should be minimal.
Only sign a contract if we have at least 50% funding. Pews are very worn & very uncomfortable, Light fixtures are architecturally incorrect and need replaced.
Might be able to sponsor, but not sure
It is truly beautiful. Thank you for your foresight!
it depends of course on price of the sponsorship but we would donate again to phase 2 In regards to pews, could a finish be applied that seals and protects wood surface that captures its generational quality as apposed to a time consuming and expensive “like new†finish.
I'm concerned about those with ill will who might consider the Church a target for mischief. Please protect this investment! God Bless!
I'm changing my vote from a "no" to a "yes". At this point we've committed. I can't be a major donor but will give what I can.
I wouldn’t restore the pews. They are fine. I would leave the stations of the cross for now.
I will contribute what I can to see Phase II accomplished. This is Gods house and I respect that.
I will contribute only if there is no carpeting and the walls have a hard reflective surface.
I was very impressed by the work completed so far. St. Francis Church reno definitely should do Phase 2.
I think the stations of the cross are wonderful as is…I would consider sponsoring a pew
I hope enough people can srill afford to give extra to finish phase two, after phase one.
I have not seen Phase 1 in person, I was out of town. I have seen pics from those who were there amd am pleasantly impressed
I am retired on a fixed income. I am willing to commit to adding $ to my current monetary contribution to help with the cost.
How much is phase 2 and how much money do we have available today for phase 2?
Great job so far!
Go for it! Not getting any cheaper and let's finish it up to match the great sanctuary restoration.
Get rid of the green carpet!
En estos momentos no puedo apoyar economicamente.. Felicidades y Bendiciones a todos los que han aportado .
Could there be another open house for Phase I? Was unable to go and wish I could see it to help decide. Can there be a list of sponsorship itmes, such as benches, etc. with expected cost?
Con mi poco y con el todo de DIOS es posible
Clarification for question 5: How much would the sponsorship be. I'm on fixed income, health issues so my finances are tightly budgeted.
Can't provide much support but will participate.
Beautiful job!
Beautiful job on phase I. Let's get it done!
And yet, I am not in a position currently to offer financial support more than 10's of dollars.
I cannot commit to sponsorship without knowing the cost.
Amazingly beautiful restoration. Reminds me of the glory and praise that should be given to God the Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit always!!!!

We should be consolidating to one facility. The 27th Street Parish is great and has everything we need. I vote to use the restoration money to help other needs in the community.
Too much has already been spent for a declining Catholic population
Stations of the cross look fine. A good cleaning will make them look new again.
Stations of the cross are beautiful just the way they are, got to leave something historical in the historic church
Sorry,I am retired but will support as best that I can.
Sone years ago Father Jose said he would go forward with making 2 parishes. One St Francis (the original parish) snd then one on 27th Street. Since that original conversation, have not seen any movement? Very disappointing! Population in Bend certainly warrants 2 parishes.
Money would be better spent elsewhere, such as food pantry and support for homeless in our community.
I'm sorry I can't help but I am on a fixed income
You have lost credibility in managing the hard-earned donations of parishioners after the loss of $100K through incompetence and negligence.
I'm glad we're renovating the Historic Church but it's too much too fast. Let's get our financial situation together before spending even more money. I'd like to see resolution to the fraud case and pay off all of Phase 1 before even thinking about starting Phase 2. We'll get it done but it doesn't have to be now.
General Comments - neither in favor nor against
What happened to the $100,000 stolen from the donors? Does insurance cover it? Anyone prosecuted? How is this being rectified for the second phase? How about taking a break and concentrate on our Catholic faith? Where does our priest and bishop stand on what is happening in the Vatican today?
